Going Out in a Blaze of Glory


On cue, the charming Japanese maple in our yard is going out in a blaze of glory.

Two years ago, we added this gem to our landscape. We needed a specimen tree and chose this variety mainly to satisfy my husband's fixation on red foliage. Left to him, every plant in our yard and garden would have red or purple foliage.

A nice addition to the landscape year-round, admittedly, she packs a pretty powerful punch this time of year.


Yes, when most other deciduous trees stand naked and shivering in the November wind, this hot little number shimmies and shakes in her crimson crinoline, prolonging the fall we so dearly hold on to.

    Japanese Maples are some of my favorite trees ever. They are beautiful almost year round. I used to have tow of the dwarf varieties (I don't recall the proper name!) that flanked either side of the step leading up to our home...gorgeous! The color of the leaves is so stunning. Love your photos!

    Great red foliage! We have several Japanese maples, but none have this vibrant a color! (Ours are kind a wimpy gold/orange.) Yours is gorgeous!

    Gorgeous color! The Japanese Maple is one of my favorite trees, but I don't have one in my yard (I rent, otherwise I'd plant one!) Thank you for sharing and for your kind words on my own fall photos!
