Shirtsleeves, Shorts and Sandals

When I left work this evening, the outside temperature was 68. At 5:30 p.m. On January 30. In Nebraska.

Out on the street, pedestrians were in shirtsleeves and shorts. When I stopped at Trader Joe's on the way home, a couple of folks had bared their tootsies in sandals that have been buried in their closets since October.

To commemorate today's record-breaking temps, I'm sharing some photos of our vintage advertising thermometers. I think the inside temperature reflected on these wonderful old advertisements was about the same as it was outside.

Global warming, anyone?

Make it a great day!

  6. What a fun collection! We aren't as warm here...68 sounds really nice, but with 40 in Minnesota right now...I'll take it! We usually have several feet of snow on the ground right now...and I see grass!

  8. These are really neat! I remember my grandma's brother had these in his room, I think from a butane company he worked for. I have not seen them or thought about them in years!! Happy VTT

  11. It's been milder than usual in my part of Canada, but certainly not as warm as Nebraska. There goes my snow-covered image of your state in the winter! Thank you for linking to "Sunlit Sunday" this week. Welcome!

  16. Everyone is commenting about their weather which is great when one is stuck inside looking out at the wind blowing and snow whirling. It is cold and snowy one day, sunny the next than back to snowy and cold. I would just rather it be cold and stay that way for the season, but we take what we get of course. Plenty of time for crafting here.
