Crimson Glory, Scorching Heat

Is anyone as sick of the blast furnace summer as I am? When I step outside, my skin feels as if it's on fire. The lawn is now browning and heading into dormancy. The flowerbeds  are still green, but blooms have been pathetic.

Except for  my two hibiscus, which are in shade from late morning on.

The water droplets look so cool and soothing. How deceiving.

The shadows showing through the back of this dinner-plate sized bloom add a spectacular dimension.

And, to think, these gorgeous blossoms come from alien-looking pods. Isn't nature marvelous?

Make it a great day!

  1. I love to have an hibiscus plant on the window sill in winter - they really don't overwinter in the garden up here. I love the back-lit shot!

  5. Your shadow shot is beautiful. It's hot and dry here too. My lawn was lush and lovely util this week. Now it looks like hay.

  10. Beautiful flora. Hibiscus seem to do better the hotter it gets. This heat has got to let up some time soon. The lingering is what's getting me.

  11. Yes, I'm tired of the heat, it was 90 degrees here in northern Michigan and most of the homes, including our cottage have no AC. Hard to keep the garden looking good in all the heat too. Cooler today…. Your Hibiscus is beautiful, love the color, you captured it beautifully. And your comment on my hens and chicks, so strange about yours I wonder what eat them all. I've had deer munch a few of mine. Thanks for stopping by, Laura
